| The Langhe |
The landscape of
the Langhe is characterised by a sequence of modest
highground limestone, followed by short valleys and split
by furrows covered with vineyards, and often surmounted
by castles and villages. The best period to visit us are Spring and Autumn; this lasts in particular for whoever wants to visit our gastronomies, and at the same time assist the harvest and truffle picking. This region is one of the richest wine regions in Piemonte and Italy. There are many trade fairs and village festivals, good hotels and a lot of famous Piemontesi restaurants with their typical cuisine. |

Castled on the top of a hill in
a panoramic position towards the Alps and Langhe, we can
find the village of La Morra. According to history
researchers, its origines are very old, and it is said
that Romans built there residential villas. Giulio
Cesare, on his way back from Gallie stopped in La Morra
to taste the wines that the growers produced. Still now after the Middle Age down hill paths mantain their fan patterns made from peabbles. Taking the road down hill we find Grinzane, where we can admire the wonderful front of the Annunziata Abbey (XIV a.c.), built by Michelangelo Garove (opening time 3:00 - 6:00 p.m.). Adopted now as museum (Museo Ratti), the Annunziata Abbey cellars exhibit the best wines of Alba, another great idea for who is visiting the origines of this wine-producing area. The Museum (opening time 9:00 - 12:30 a.m.). Renato Ratti carried out in 1971 fundamental subjects to help visitors discover the life of wine making, exhibiting in four different rooms old historical documents, tools, glasses and bottles used in different times. there are also topographic maps that show where the different wines are produced in various parts of Alba zone, and there is a little recnstruction of a barrel shop with its working tools. In the end we can admire the exhibition of the Roman archeological items found in the zone of the Langhe, and of marine fossils found in the vineyards of La Morra and Monteu Roero. |
